How Loop works

Straight answers about riding, driving, paying, and belonging. Every answer here is linkable. Share the one your group chat needs.

Getting started

What is Loop?

Loop is Canadian rideshare built around community. Book a seat in a car already going your way, join Circles for your campus or city, and find events to go to together. Along the way you earn real rewards: Loop Coins you can spend on rides, plus streaks and recognition for showing up.

Do I need to be a student to use Loop?

No. Loop is campus-first because that’s where ridesharing works best, but anyone can join. No student email required. Circles exist for campuses, cities, and communities of every kind.

Where does Loop work?

Loop works across Canada. Rides are posted wherever drivers are going: intercity trips, campus commutes, event runs. The app shows you everything departing near you.

How do I get started?

Download the app and sign in with your phone number. That’s all it takes to create your account. Riders can book right away; drivers add their vehicle and complete ID verification before posting their first ride.

Rides & booking

How does booking a ride work?

Search where you’re headed, pick a ride that matches your time, and book your seat: instantly on rides with instant book, or after the driver confirms on request-based rides. Payment is handled in the app, so there’s no cash awkwardness at pickup.

I make the same trip every week. Do I have to repost it?

No. Post it once as a weekly series and Loop repeats it on the days you choose. Set your Tuesdays once and they’re covered. You can edit or end the series anytime.

What’s the pickup PIN for?

Every booking gets a pickup PIN. You show it to your driver at pickup and they confirm it in their app, so you both know you’re getting into the right car, with the right person, every time.

Can I see my ride’s status live?

Yes. From the moment your driver heads out, your booking shows live status (on the way, picked up, dropped off), so you and anyone you share your trip with always know where things stand.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Plans change. You can cancel any booking in the app. Your refund depends on how close to departure you cancel; the exact windows are shown before you confirm and in our Terms of Service. If your driver cancels, you’re always refunded in full.

Payments, pricing & refunds

How are ride prices set?

Drivers set their seat price when they post a ride, but Loop enforces your province’s cost-sharing cap, so prices stay genuine cost-splitting, never surge pricing. What you see at booking is what you pay.

How do I pay?

Pay in the app with your card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. You can save a card securely for one-tap checkout. Your card details never touch our servers; payment processing is fully tokenized.

How do refunds work?

Refunds go back to your original payment method. Driver-cancelled rides refund in full automatically; rider cancellations follow the windows shown at booking. If something goes wrong on a trip, reach out through the app and we’ll make it right.

What are Loop Coins and Loop Rep?

Loop Coins are real, spendable rewards: you earn about 3% back on rides, and each coin is worth 1¢ at checkout. You earn coins. You can’t buy them. Loop Rep is different: it’s reputation you build by showing up for your Circles, whether that’s organizing, helping, or being a great rider or driver. Rep can’t be bought or spent; it’s how communities recognize their people.

Safety & trust

How does Loop keep rides safe?

ID verification, PIN-confirmed pickups, live trip status, and share-my-trip (a live tracking page your loved ones can follow in any browser, no app needed). Every profile carries a Trust Meter, a 0-100 score built from real signals, plus blind two-way ratings after every ride. In-app chat keeps your phone number private, and you always see who you’re riding with before you book.

Can I ride with women only?

Yes. Women can post women-only rides: trips that only women can book. Loop enforces it; it’s a rule, not a preference or a request. There are also verified-only rides, open just to riders and drivers who’ve completed ID verification. How you ride is your choice, made in one tap.

Can someone follow my trip?

Yes. Share your trip and the people you choose get a live tracking link they can open in any web browser. No app, no account needed. They follow your trip in real time, and you can stop sharing whenever you like.

What if something goes wrong on a trip?

Report it in the app. Every trip has a report option, and our team reviews safety reports first. In an emergency, always contact local emergency services first.

Circles & community

What are Circles?

Circles are Loop’s communities: your campus, your city, your crew. Inside a Circle you’ll find rides going your way, events people are organizing, and go-together matching for concerts and games. Rides get you there; Circles are why you stay.

What are Loop Events?

Circles surface what’s happening around your city (shows, games, festivals) and show you how many people from your Circles are going. Need a way there? Tap “need a seat” or “offering seats” on any event and Loop connects you with others headed the same way. You always book your own seat. Nothing is ever booked or charged for you.

How do I level up in my Circle?

Be part of it. Riding, driving, organizing events, and helping admins keep the community healthy all earn Loop Rep. Higher Rep unlocks recognition and, in active Circles, real community roles.

What are streaks and Leagues?

Ride or drive in your usual week and your commute streak grows. Streak freezes have your back when life happens, because Loop celebrates showing up and doesn’t punish missing a week. Commuter Leagues group you with people at your level, from Bronze up to Diamond, so you climb against peers, not the whole country. And if you slip a tier, that stays between you and the app.

What’s the CO₂ number in my profile?

Every shared ride computes the CO₂ you avoided by not driving separately, and it adds up as a lifetime total in your profile. Hit milestones, earn eco badges, and see where you stand on your Circle and city leaderboards. At the end of the year, Loop Wrapped shows what your rides added up to.

Driving with Loop

Why should I post my empty seats?

You’re driving anyway. Your empty seats are money left on the road. Post your trip, set your price under your province’s cap, and let riders going your way cover your costs. Frequent routes can be posted as a recurring series in one step.

How do I get paid?

Your earnings accumulate in the app as you drive. Cash out whenever you like: bank transfer is free, or send it instantly to your debit card. Interac e-Transfer is supported too. Your earnings dashboard tracks every trip, so you always know what you’ve made.

What do I need to start driving?

A valid licence, an insured vehicle, and a verified profile. Add your vehicle in the app, complete ID verification, and you’re ready to post your first trip.
